Appearance: Kusogaki is very scrungly. Short, way too skinny, baggy clothes that hang off their frame. They have way too many pockets and belts and pouches to keep everything he steals on her body. He was black, flat, matted hair, dark eyes with dark spots under them from a lack of sleep. You can count his ribs if you saw them. Fair skin, though very dirty and pockmarked and filled with bruises. She wears closed toed boots that she stole. Dead, fisheyed expression. Very jittery, hates standing still.
Personality: Having grown up with nothing, Kusogaki has a very loose view on personal boundaries. She steals, constantly. He does it as casually as breathing. He can't help themselves. They're also very quiet. Not growing up socialized has left Kusogaki alone with her own thoughts most of the time. She doesn't feel a need to talk unless prompted. He's also very protective of herself and the things he steals. It's just other people's boundaries that are hard to accept. They also hate to be touched, having never been hugged in his life, and every encounter with people usually ended with violence. When fighting, they tend to give up pretty easily, hoping to save herself a beating. She speaks in he third person, and has no sense of self, only possessions. Incapable of processing their own feelings.
History: Kusogaki was born unwanted and unloved. It is unknown what their original parents called her, because at 6 months, Kusogaki was thrown in a dumpster to die. Somehow, by eating trash and through pity, he survived. No one wanted to take in a crying dumpster baby, but Kusogaki managed to subside on trash and water, and whatever the small colony of rats that called this part of town home would spare her. For some reason, instead of eating them, the rats adopted Kusogaki as one of their own. Maybe the chakra in the mist made them more intelligent? More empathetic? Maybe Kusogaki looked like a particularly drowned rat. Who knows?
Time passed, and Kusogaki learned to crawl, then slowly walk. They had no name, but every time he would encounter humans, they would kick him and call him names, the most common was Kusogaki. Therefore, that must be her name. He had no idea it was an insult. He didn't even know language yet. As she grew, she wandered the city, though never too far from the rats, as they were the only family they knew, poor as it was. Kusogaki would hunt, steal and kill to survive. Skittish and afraid of people, they did what had to be done. He learned how to sneak to steal the best bread and fruits. She learned how to fight, to defend herself from others. They learned to mimic the sounds people made, learned language by hiding in the shadows at schools. Kusogaki may have been a trashy urchin, but they were not stupid. She learned.
As he grew more experienced, Kusogaki discovered there were people with special powers that demanded respect from the regular folk. She watched them, studied them, and learned to mimic these shinobi as well, wanting too grow more and more so they would never have to suffer again. They could carve into the fabric of the world that no one could take from Kusogaki. That Kusogaki would not be stopped. So they learned and grew.
Finally, while trying to pick pocket an academy student after wandering into the graduation exam by mistake, Kusogaki was attacked, and brutally murdered the student. Without even realizing it, Kusogaki became a genin. She was now a ninja! People just kind of went with it because they thought it was hilarious After all, most of the academy instructors knew he was lurking around It was funny to them.
